Volunteer registration is now open for staff and faculty who are able to assist with Welcome Week 2017. We are expecting over 6,000 first-year students this year! Help us welcome students to the University—their new home for the next four years! Here are the areas where help is needed:

Welcome Week is a multi-day experience directly before fall classes begin. Welcome Week Leaders are a team of volunteers who help to create a welcoming and inclusive environment during Welcome Week. Welcome Week focuses on providing a quality transitional experience for new students and helps new students prepare for their life at the U of M through planning, exploring campus, building community, and participating in campus traditions. Freshman students meeting returning students before classes begin “is now emphasized as an important element in college life at Minnesota by the activities of Freshman Week…” Now known as Welcome Week, activities originally organized as Freshman Week have continued through the decades in various forms, adapting to changing perspectives and expectations for “a useful greeting to campus.” From backpacks to posters, University of Minnesota pride to Midwestern spirit, Land O’Lakes plays a key role in Welcome Week, a six-day experience leading up to the first day of fall semester for incoming freshmen and transfer students. Over their first weekend on campus, incoming new students will have a full experience combining online programs and in-person meetings to prepare them for their first days of school. The University of Minnesota–Twin Cities will welcome the Class of 2019 to campus next week. At more than 5,700 students, it is one of the U of M's largest freshman classes on record. Following two days of residence hall move–ins on August 26 and 27, the U of M Twin Cities will kick off Welcome Week activities on August 28. In order to enhance existing efforts between OTE and ISSS to increase international student participation in Welcome Week, this event provides an opportunity for international students to meet Welcome Week Leaders (WWLs), as well as, some of the new students in their group prior to the start of Welcome Week.
